Taking a trip to Seattle? Bring your umbrella! As the
old joke goes, residents of Seattle don't tan, they rust.
But don't worry, even though the climate is often wet,
there are fun things to do, and this article will give you
some ideas on cheap travel at the same
time.
First, it is said that July and August are the best
months to go, so try to schedule your trip around this time
if you can. The weather is usually nice and the rainfall is
at a minimum.
Now what can you do if you're on a budget?
Check out The Museum of Flight for an amazing collection
of aircraft. Admission is free of charge on the first
Thursday evening of every month from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00
p.m. The Museum is very conveniently located just a minute
off of Interstate 5, and only 10 minutes south of downtown
Seattle.
The Space Needle, designed for the 1962 World's Fair, is
of course a must-see activity. You can ride one of three
glass elevators to the 520-foot Observation Deck on top and
view the panorama of Seattle's natural wonders. A tip on
how to travel cheap for this attraction is to check with
your hotel for discount coupons. This is one of the most
popular attractions in the city and you can easily find
discounted tickets and coupons to save a few dollars.
The Go Seattle Card is a great deal if you are
interested in trying out many different activities. With
the card you will receive admission to over 30 different
attractions, activities, and tours. It's just one low price
($55.00 for 1 day as of this writing) and I think it's a
terrific deal for all that it includes. A great tip on how
to travel cheap in Seattle, for sure.
Take a free ride on a boat on Lake Union. Every Sunday
afternoon for a few hours, the Center for Wooden Boats
offers free boat rides in classic wooden sailboats. You can
watch float-planes land and take while you sail across the
lake.
For another inexpensive activity you can take a ferry
ride across Puget Sound. Be sure to bring along your camera
as you can often see porpoises and occasionally even
eagles.
For one last tip on cheap
travel, you can't forget the coffee shops! For
the price of a cup of coffee or a delicious mocha, you can
enjoy some people watching at its best from one of the
city's numerous coffee shops. Plan on trying out several
every day.
